Primary care services receive ‘good’ rating

Primary Care Sheffield (PCS) and Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) are delighted to announce that the Clover Group of practices has been rated as ‘Good’ in all five domains following an inspection of its services by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September 2017. The Clover Group of practices, run in partnership by PCS and SHSC, are Darnall Primary Care Centre, Highgate Surgery, Jordanthorpe Health centre and the Mulberry Practice.

Dr Andy Hilton, Chief Executive Officer, PCS said: “We welcome today’s report from the CQC. We are very pleased that the service is now rated as good across all five domains.  We have made significant improvements, particularly in the safe and responsive domains, however, we know that there is still more work to do.”

“The partnership between PCS and SHSC means that we are able to work collaboratively to find new ways of providing better care for our patients. We are working closely with staff and patients to make further improvements to the service we provide.”

The improvement work already undertaken includes the recruitment of new staff, the introduction of Saturday morning appointments at a central location, new clinics (Sexual Health and Travel Health) and an electronic prescribing service. A new telephone system has been purchased which will improve accessibility and responsiveness.  Funding has also been secured for new city centre purpose built accommodation for the Mulberry Practice.

Kevan Taylor, Chief Executive, SHSC, said: “We are delighted with the improved rating from the CQC. We are particularly pleased that the quality of care for the six specific population groups is rated as good including older people, people with long term conditions and people experiencing poor mental health.  These improvements are the result of the hard work and dedication of our staff who are working closely with patients to make sure that their voices are heard and any concerns are appropriately addressed.”
