Additional ‘surge capacity’ extended until end of March

The additional primary care appointment capacity being provided by Primary Care Sheffield has been extended until the end of March.

The extra appointments – which can be booked by GP practices across the City – are designed to help the health system cope with exceptional demand on services over the winter period.

Primary Care Sheffield has been providing around 825 extra appointments a week for patients in Sheffield and has now received additional funding which will allow it to continue providing that temporary additional capacity until the end of March.

The additional appointments are all provided by primary care staff including GPs, Paramedics, and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. They include home-visits, and specific appointments for children and for people experiencing acute respiratory illnesses.

Appointments will be provided in four primary care hubs run by Primary Care Sheffield across the City. All appointments are made available to Sheffield GP practices who can book for their patients as required.
