Helping our member practices improve their resilience

PCS was formed by practices in Sheffield to support practices in Sheffield and improve services for their patients. Through our scale and back-office services we provide practices with the support they need to improve resilience, efficiency, and patient outcomes.

Adding Primary Care Capacity

We help practices in Sheffield come together to provide additional appointments at-scale which helped to ease the problems caused by spiralling demand. This improved access whilst freeing up practice time and offered patients the opportunity to access the most appropriate health professional for their needs.

Practice Rescue

If asked to do so then Primary Care Sheffield can play an important role in supporting practices in the City which are experiencing difficulty–our role can including anything from light-touch support to taking over full management of practices. Primary Care Sheffield now runs seven practices in the City–having taken over the running of Darnall Health Centre in April 2022.

Creating new funding opportunities for practices

We continue to help practices work together in a way which provides access to additional funding streams. These opportunities totalled £7.9m in 2021-22

Training and support for primary care clinicians

The Clinical Assessment Support and Education Service (CASES) is an elective care re-design programme that aims to reduce the pressure on elective services and makes sure that patients in Sheffield receive their care in the most appropriate setting from the most appropriate clinician.

Providing practices and PCNs with flexible ways to employ people

We help practices in Sheffield come together to provide additional appointments at-scale which helped to ease the problems caused by spiralling demand. This improved access whilst freeing up practice time and offered patients the opportunity to access the most appropriate health professional for their needs.
