PCS|Clinical Research Facility

We opened our Clinical Research Facility (CRF) in North Darnall Health Centre in April 2026.

Funded by an NIHR Capital Funding bid, our research facilities now include a research treatment room, a research consultation room, and a research laboratory.  The CRF is equipped with secure storage, dedicated fridges and freezers, centrifuge, ECG, and spirometer.   The CRF is co-located and integrated with PCS|North Darnall GP practice, PCS|PCAS (Primary Care at Scale) and a pharmacy.

All these NHS services serve the people of North Darnall which is an economically deprived, and ethnically diverse part of Sheffield.  Our hub and spoke model also allows patients in all PCS practices the opportunity to take part in research at the PCS | Clinical Research Facility.  Our research inclusion plan ensures that equality, diversity and inclusivity are central to our work.

Our research team includes a research manager, GPs, nurses, a clinical trials assistant (CTA), with wrap around support from Primary Care Sheffield’s corporate functions (human resources, finance, contracts).  Our substantial portfolio of research includes research delivery (academic and commercial), and research projects (often in collaboration with NHS and academic organisations).  Our partners/collaborators include The University of Sheffield, SHPU, Sheffield BRC, Y&H ARC.

Patients who are interested in taking part in research can look-up which studies are open at Primary Care Sheffield by clicking the Get Involved link on our webpage.
