PCS|Same Day Service

A Primary Care Sheffield Patient|Care Service

Primary Care Sheffield offer a Same Day Service.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book your appointment via your GP practice receptionist, who will be able to see all the additional evening and weekend appointments available to you and book you an appropriate time and place. You may also be booked in by the out of hours GP team, after contacting them or coming through 111. Children may be redirected from Sheffield Children’s hospital A&E

Where will the appointments be located?

We offer

  • Home visits for the housebound by a primary care clinician (not GP)
  • GP and ANP appointments is sites across the city

We offer more appointments in winter than in summer to deal with demand.

Who works in the service and what do they do?

The service is staffed by local GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and paramedics.

We offer appointments for new illnesses that require you to be seen on the day. This is not a pre-bookable service.

When will these appointments take place?

Appointments will be offered between 9am9.30pm, Monday – Friday, and 9am – 6pm on Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday. Please note the service model changes at different times of the year, to reflect that there is more need in winter due to seasonal illness.

Who has access to my medical records/history?

You will be asked at the time of booking to give consent for the clinician to see previous notes and medical records. This allows the clinician to see for example what treatment, advice or prescription has helped you in the past and means that they are better equipped to provide you with safe and effective care during your appointment. It also means that they can update your medical record there and then, so that your registered GP can see it when you visit the practice in the future.

Tests and referrals

All clinicians working within the service will have the ability to refer onwards to another local service provider, should this be needed.
